Partner owner of S Weissbart, David is a true wellspring of diamond expertise—always generous with his knowledge and happy to offer guidance to those new to the industry. Following in his father’s footsteps, he’s approachable, customer-focused and passionate about upholding the values that have shaped the business.

When did you begin working at S Weissbart and how did you get into the industry?
David: I began officially working at S Weissbart in 1986, although I first got into the industry at a young age. I always loved going into Dad’s office and grabbed the opportunity to join the business once my sister got married and moved away.
How much has S Weissbart changed, both in terms of outlook and operations, since you joined the team?
David: Technology and changes in the market makes the industry wholly unrecognizable from what it used to be. In terms of the operations of our office- for the first 10+ years that I worked here, it was a family only business with an occasional part-time help from a diamond polisher who shared our premises. My sister and I were the first “additional manpower” on the team! Now we’re lucky to have two office locations with amazing employees that we consider to be our extended family. Our outlook has slightly adjusted to accommodate for changes in the market and our clients’ needs, but our top priorities have never changed. We will always make sure that we’re looking after all of our clients and treating them with respect and importance, no matter how big or small their business is.
What do you think is the most important thing to your customers and how do you meet their needs?
David: Reliability, good customer service, consistency in supply/quality and integrity. We always do our best to meet everyone’s needs and praise our staff members whenever they go out of their way to help a customer.
What do you most enjoy about working in the diamond industry?
David: I really enjoy having interactions with our customers and meeting new people, whenever I get the opportunity to do so (which is less often than I used to).
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
David: My dad always taught us to be honest in all of our dealings. Also, that the customer is always right... even when they’re wrong!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
David: I enjoy studying and helping out in the community with voluntary work.
What are you looking to achieve as you continue to operate S Weissbart?
David: A few things. First and foremost, to maintain the good name and reputation of our father. Industry wise, to continue supporting the local jewellery community and the companies and families who rely on our business and services. Closer to home, I’d like to support and maintain our great team of employees, keeping them happy and working well together in a good environment.
