When did you begin working at S Weissbart and how did you get into the industry?
Jonathan: I joined S Weissbart in 1995 after completing my training as a chartered accountant. At the time, I was looking to move on to another job and my father suggested joining the family business. As they say, the rest is history!
How much has S Weissbart changed, both in terms of outlook and operations, since you joined the team?
Jonathan: The operations have changed completely since I first joined the team. In the mid-90s, it was a family affair— my father, my mother (handling the accounts), my brother David and myself. These days we have two busy office locations and a much larger team. In terms of outlook, our core values have always remained the same: conducting business honestly and providing exceptional customer service. The only difference is that we’re now able to help more customers!
What do you think is the most important thing to your customers and how do you meet their needs?
Jonathan: At the end of the day, each customer that we meet has a different background and needs and we take great pride in ensuring that each customer feels personally care of. It’s all about flexibility and getting to know each customer as an individual.
What do you most enjoy about working in the diamond industry?
Jonathan: I enjoy the fact that no two days at work look the same for me. Some days, I get the opportunity to meet and get to know new people. Other days, I’m able to look at interesting and beautiful pieces of jewellery.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Jonathan: If you always keep an open mind, you can learn something new from anybody. Always be willing and receptive to different perspectives and fresh ideas. This will keep you from growing stagnant and ensure that you stay relevant.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Jonathan: I’d definitely describe myself as a “family man” and I enjoy spending quality time with my family. I’m also passionate about keeping fit and lately I’ve been doing that through running marathons. I recently completed the London Marathon in under three and a half hours and raised nearly £7,000 for my chosen charity.
What are you looking to achieve as you continue to operate S Weissbart?
Jonathan: For me, success is less about a long-term vision and more about ensuring that I meet my day-to-day goals. I like to approach the days as they come and always bring my best efforts to any tasks or challenges at hand.
